Idli
Today i wanted to post the recipe of Idli.. my favorite and also many people love it as it is steamed and healthy and easy to make.It is a good breakfast and also for dinner too. You can make lot of other dishes out of it like Idli upma,Idli manchurian,masala idli etc....
- Ingredients
- Idli Rice/Ponni boiled rice - 4 cups
- Urad Dhal -1 cup
- Fenugreek seeds -1 tsp
- salt -to taste
First, soak rice separately and urad with fenugreek seeds separately for 4 hours or overnight. Then grind it with the help of wet grinder or mixie/food processor to a smooth consistency. Then add salt mix it and let it ferment overnight.
The next day the dough would have doubled.
Steam Idlies in the Idli pan or Idli cooker.
Approximately in 10-20 minutes, it will be ready.
With the smell you can find out if it is cooked or take a toothpick and poking it in the center of the idli and if it comes out clean it is cooked
Serve it hot with Sambhar and Coconut chutney.
Tips
Soak the rice and dhal for a minimum of four hours or overnight is best.
Grind it in a stone grinder/wet grinder...Mixie is also ok
If using the grinder while grinding the dhal grind it for 30 minutes when it is fluffy take it out.
Mix both nicely
Allow to ferment nicely...
In winter times to ferment you can add very little yeast
