Simple Kozhukattai
Kozhukattai is like a dumpling made with rice flour/Idyappam flour/Kozhukattai flour.It is easy to make and can be made quickly.
Here i made it with rice flour. It can be made as a snack too and the kids will love it.
Sometimes it is called Pidi kozhukattai or Kara kozhukattai.....
Ingredients
Rice flour - 1 cup
water - as needed[1 3/4-2cups]
yellow mung-2 tbsp
jeera -1 tsp
salt to taste [1 tsp approximately]
Seasoning
oil - 1 tbspmustard -1 tsp
red chilly -1 [if you need spicy add more]
curry leaves
onion - 1/2 chopped finely[optional]
coconut - 1/2 cup [optional]
coriander for garnishing
First mix the rice flour , water , salt ,jeera,, yellow mung to a buttermilk consistency .
Take a kadai and heat it and add oil to it.
Now add the mustard and when they splutter add the onions, red chilly and curry leaves and saute for few minutes.
Then add the mixed rice flour and keep stirring it till it doesn't stick to the pan and the water is absorbed . It will take few minutes .
Now take the pan off the heat
Now allow it to cool a little bit and add coconut and make small balls .
Then heat the idli cooker/vessel and then steam the balls for 4-5 minutes and remove it in the serving bowl and kozhukattai is ready. Garnish it with coriander chopped finely.
We can eat just like that or serve it with spicy chutney like tomato chutney /onion chutney
Tips
While seasoning we can add urad dhal , channa dhal with mustard.
when we mix rice flour with water if it is little thin consistency then it becomes softer .
