Pepper Rasam is one of my favorite Rasam apart from Tomato Rasam. Pepper Rasam made of freshly ground/crushed Black Pepper as a main ingredient . It is a traditional South Indian recipe and is good remedy for cold and cough due to its tangy and medicinal values of black pepper. In this recipe I added my Quick Rasam Powder Mix too to add more flavor. We can serve this traditional Pepper Rasam with hot steamed Rice, Potato Masala and Pickle/Appalam(Pappad)
Ingredients
Tamarind - 1 small gooseberry size (soaked in 1 cup of water)
Water - 2 cups
Tomato - 1 medium size (chopped)
salt - 1tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp (Black Pepper)
Quick Rasam Powder Mix - 1-2 tsps
curry leaves
Mustard seeds - 1tsp
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Cumin - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 1/2 - 1
oil - 2 tsp
garlic - 1 clove crushed
Coriander - finely chopped for garnishing
Take the juice of the tamarind which we soaked in a cup of water. Now we will have 1 cup of tamarind water.
Take a Pan . Heat it . Then add the chopped tomatoes, few curry leaves and add little of the tamarind water . Add turmeric,Quick Rasam Powder Mix , salt and close the lid to allow the tomatoes to be cooked
When the tomatoes are cooked , add the remaining tamarind water, 2 cups of water . Add the Black Pepper to it and allow to boil.
And on the other stove we will prepare the seasoning
Take the Ladle. Heat it ,add oil to it.
When the oil is hot add the Mustard , cumin, asafoetida. When it starts to splutter add the red chilli ,crushed garlic and remaining curry leaves and take it out of the heat.
Add this seasoning to the boiling Rasam. After 2-3 seconds add the chopped coriander and switch of the flame
Delicious Pepper Rasam is ready to enjoyπππππ Serve with hot Rice and Appalam.
