Avarakkai Kootu

Today's dish is made with the vegetable which is from our garden. From Garden to TableπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

Call it flat beans or broad beans or Papdi.Avarakkai is a good source of vitamins A and C , potassium and iron.

We can make lot of dishes with this vegetable. We can make poriyal, sambhar, masala. curry ,subzi too

Lets go the recipe

Avarakkai - 1 &1/4  cup (320 gms chopped)(it was 2 cups before chopping)

Onion - 1/4 cup chopped

Tomato-1 chopped

split mung dhal-1/4 cup

Sambhar Powder - 1/4 tsp or 1/2 tsp

turmeric powder-1/4 tsp

cumin - 1/4 tsp

water as needed

Grind

coconut - 1/4 cup

rice flour- 1 tsp

seasoning

oil - 1tsp

urad dhal-1/2 tsp

curry leaves-few

First wash the avarakkai/broad beans .Cut the ends and slice them into thin strips.

For this I used the pressure cooker.

First wash the split mung dhal and add it to the cooker.

Then add the chopped onion, tomato, chopped avarakkai/broad beans, cumin, salt, sambhar powder.

Add water around 1/4 to 1/2 cup (depending on how thin or thick we need the kootu to be)

I added 1/2 cup . We can remove the excess water after its cooked to so don't worry. I didn't want the kootu to get burnt so I added 1/2 cup.

Close the pressure cooker and cook it for 3 whistles.

After its done let the pressure go down.

In the meantime grind the coconut ,rice flour and keep it aside

In a small pan heat oil . When hot add the urad , curry leaves and when it pops add this to the kootu in pressure cooker and the ground coconut

In the same flame keep the pressure cooker without the lid and let it cook for a minute or two minutes.

Now switch it off and serve  it with hot rice and a bit of ghee.

Yummy delicious Avarakkai Kootu /Broad beans Kootu is ready.
