Naan

 Naan is just Indian style flat bread . It is soft, bubbly bread and it can be made with plain wheat or bread flour or combination of both instead of all purpose flour / Maida to make it a healthier version.

It is very simple to make too. Here I am going to make it with a combination of Wheat and Bread flour( bread flour is also is wheat flour and not enriched flour)


Wheat Flour - 1 1/2 cup

Bread flour - 1 1/2 cup

Yeast - 1 pack ( it has 2 1/4 tsp)

salt - 1 1/2 tsp ( we can use little less too)

sugar - 1 tsp (optional ) This is to proof the yeast

 Warm Water - 1 1/3 cup

oil - 1 tsp

Garlic powder - 1tsp (optional)

First proof the yeast. 

Take a measuring cup and add the warm water, sugar and yeast.

Mix well and leave it for 5-10 minutes. 

After 10 minutes we can see how the yeast water has risen.

Then in a bowl , add the flour , salt ,garlic powder  and the yeast mixture . 

Make it into a dough and kneed it as we do for the bread/chapati.

Apply oil, cover it with damp cloth and set it aside for 1-2 hours.

The dough will rise after a couple of hours.

Now its ready for making Naan.

Roll it like a tortilla but not so thin. Roll it little thicker.

Heat the tawa and put the rolled tortilla and close with the lid.

It will bubble on the top and gets cook on one side.

Take it and place the uncooked side on the flame directly and cook it.

Take it out in a plate . Brush it with melted butter mixed with garlic or with a slice of butter
