Keerai Kootu

 This is one of the easy, healthy Kootu variety and can be served with hot rice and ghee on top. We need only few ingredients. 

Spinach - 1 bunch / 1 pack

Split moong dhal - 1/4 cup ( cook it and keep it aside. When cooked it will be around 1/2 cup)

onion - 1/4 cup chopped ( optional)

seasoning 

cumin - 1/2 tsp

urad - 1/2 tsp

green chilli- 1 slit ( we can use red  chilli too)

oil - 1 tsp

Garlic - 1 clove peeled and crushed

ghee - 1 tsp ( optional)


Heat a pan  and add oil to it.

Then add the urad , cumin, slit chilli.

Saute it for a minute or see till the urad becomes slightly golden brown.

Then add onion to it. Saute it for a minute . Then add the cleaned and chopped spinach and mix it.

Do mix it often to avoid burning it. By this time the water from the spinach will help too. 

Add salt to it

Then add 1/4 cup of water, and little more and allow it to cook.

After few minutes it will be cooked as cooking the spinach won't take long.

Now add the cooked moong dhal to it and mix.

Add the crushed garlic too.

After 3-4 minutes  kootu will be ready and before switching it off add the ghee to it and off the flames.

Delicious Spinach Kootu/ Keerai Kootu is ready .

Serve with hot Rice
