Spinach Poriyal

 This Poriyal is a very simple to make and healthy dish. It has a lot of nutrients. It goes well with Hot Rice and Rasam.


Spinach - 8 oz

onion - 1/4 cup chopped

urad dhal - 1/2 tsp

Cumin - 1/4 tsp

Chilli - 1 slit

Coconut - 1/2 cup ( grated / shredded)

oil - 2 tsp

salt to taste

Asafoetida - 1 pinch ( this is optional)

Wash the Spinach and chop it

Chop the onions.

After you have everything ready, turn on the stove. Because this is a quick recipe, you don't want to burn it.

Heat a Pan and keep the flame in medium.

Add oil to it and when it is hot, add the seasoning - urad,  cumin, asafoetida

When it starts to pop, add the chopped onion and chili

Saute it for   1-2  minutes. Add the chopped spinach and continue sauteing.

Add salt to taste . Spinach cooks fast and after 3-4 minutes we can see that spinach would come together. Now add the grated coconut to it and mix.

Switch off the stove. Delicious Spinach Poriyal is ready. 

Serve this side dish with hot rice and Rasam.
