Figs Pachadi / Athikkai Pachadi

 Figs are fruits that grow on the Ficus tree, a member of the Mulberry family or Moraceae. They belong to the genus Ficus, whose scientific name is Ficus carica.

Figs are known by various names in local languages. They are called ‘Anjeer‘ in Hindi, ‘Athi Pallu‘ in Telugu, ‘Atti Pazham‘ in Tamil and Malayalam, ‘Anjura‘ in Kannada, and ‘Dumoor‘ in Bengali. Figs are perfect for you. They are rich in fiber and essential minerals such as magnesium, manganese, calcium, copper, potassium, and vitamins K and B6. So much good in one fruit!

Today I am going to make Fig Pachadi with unripe green fig. It is easy to make and this recipe is a healthy one packed with minerals and vitamins.

For cooking this recipe we need to saute the chopped figs with 1-2 tsp oil and a little salt.

Figs- 1 cup ( washed and chopped)

onion- 1/4 cup chopped

tomato- 1 chopped

ginger paste- 1/2 tsp

curry leaves

curry powder- 1/2 tsp { can substituted by chilli powder}

turmeric- 1/4 tsp

coriander powder- 1/2 tsp

thuvar dhal - 1/2 cup {cooked perfectly}

Mustard - 1/2 tsp

cumin- 1/2 tsp

oil - 4 tsp { 2 tsp for sauteeing figs and 2 tsp for Pachadi/subzi}

salt to taste

Heat a Pan. Add  2tsp oil and saute chopped figs for 5-6 minutes. Keep it aside.

In the Instant Pot, put it in Saute mode.

Add mustard, and cumin to it and let it pop. Then add the chopped onions and saute them.

Then add the tomatoes, and ginger paste and mix it. Add curry leaves and then the sauteed figs. Mix it

Now add the turmeric, curry powder, and coriander and mix it. Add salt. After a few minutes of sauteing add 1/2 cup of water ( add water till the vegetable is immersed in water- not too much or too little)

Close the Instant Pot and cancel the saute mode

Put it on Pressure Cook, vegetable mode, temperature high for 9 minutes.

After it is done and pressure is released, open it and put it in saute mode. Then add the thuvar dhal and mix it for 2 minutes. Add salt if needed

Then turn it off and yummy Fig Pachadi is ready. Serve hot with Rice, rasam, or roti.
