Healthy Tawa Masala Idli Delight

 Healthy Tawa Masala Idli Delight

This dish is a healthier twist on one of my all-time favorites—Fried Idli, but with a guilt-free twist. By opting for a Tawa Fry method instead of deep frying, I've kept the rich flavor while cutting down on the oil. The result? A deliciously crispy, golden-brown Masala Idli that’s as tasty as the original but better for your health.

Ingredients:

  • Mini Idli: 1 bowl
  • Onion: 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Tomato: 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Garlic paste: 1/2 tsp
  • Carrot: 1/2 cup, shredded (optional)
  • Salt: as needed
  • Tikka masala: 2 tsp (optional)
  • Curry powder: 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Curry leaves: a few
  • Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Oil: 4 tsp (2 tsp for tawa fry and 2 tsp for masala preparation)

Instructions:

  1. Tawa Fry the Idlis:

    • Heat a tawa on medium flame and add 2 tsp of oil.
    • Once the oil is hot, arrange the mini idlis in a single layer on the tawa.
    • Fry until they turn golden brown on both sides.
    • Remove and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Masala:

    • In the same pan, heat the remaining 2 tsp of oil on medium flame.
    • Add chopped onions and garlic paste, and sauté until golden.
    • Add tomatoes, shredded carrots, curry leaves, and turmeric powder.
    • Sprinkle salt, curry powder, and tikka masala (if using).
    • Sauté until the tomatoes are slightly cooked.
  3. Combine & Cook:

    • Add the tawa-fried idlis to the masala mixture.
    • Mix well, ensuring the masala coats the idlis.
    • Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, to let the flavors meld.

Enjoy your healthy and flavorful Tawa Masala Idli Delight—a perfect snack/ breakfast/dinner that satisfies your cravings without compromising on taste!
