Protein-Packed Oats & Hemp Seed Idli
A wholesome twist on traditional idli! This version combines oats, raw rice, urad dal, and nutrient-rich hemp seeds for a soft, fluffy, and protein-rich breakfast. Hemp seeds are a complete protein source and packed with essential fatty acids—making this idli both delicious and nutritious!
Ingredients:
- Raw rice – 2 cups
- Urad dal – 1 cup
- Oats – 2 cups
- Hemp seeds – ½ cup
- Salt – 1½ tsp
- Eno – 1 tsp { We need eno because we are using raw rice. If using Idli rice we can make Eno optional}
Instructions:
- Soak Ingredients – Soak the rice, urad dal, and hemp seeds in water for 3–4 hours.
- Soak Oats – Half an hour before grinding, soak the oats in water separately.
- Grind the Batter – Grind the soaked rice, urad dal, and hemp seeds into a smooth paste. Then, add the soaked oats and blend until well combined.
- Ferment – Transfer the batter to a bowl, add salt, and mix well. Let it ferment for 6–8 hours or overnight.
- Prepare for Steaming – Grease the idli plates. If using raw rice, mix in Eno before steaming. (If using idli rice, Eno is not needed.)
- Steam the Idlis – Pour the batter into the idli molds and steam for 15–20 minutes until soft and fluffy.
- Serve & Enjoy – Enjoy warm with sambar, chutney, or idli podi.
