Banana flower Poriyal

                        Valaipoo Poriyal

                                  Call it a valaipoo Poriyal or Banana flower Poriyal is another dish using banana flower and no frying needed. It is simple to make .Just like the Banana Flower vadai we have to  prepare the banana flower taking out the stems and then you have to chop it and keep aside .

Banana Flower - chopped 1 cup
onion                - 1/4 cup
Thuvar dhal     - 1/4 cup cooked
sambhar powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric         - 1/4 tsp
coconut          -1/4 cup ( optional)
oil for seasoning
Mustard         - 1/4 tsp
Urad              -1/4 tsp
curry leaves few


            First take the stem in the flowers ,chop it and soak it in a bowl of water with little buttermilk in it. This is because it takes away the bitterness .
After few minutes drain the water andsqueeze out the excess liquid and keep it aside.
Heat a bowl of water and add the flower and sambhar powder, turmeric and cook for few minutes. 
Check the stem if it tender then it it cooked. drain the water.Keep it aside.
Heat the stove and add oil to it. When hot add the mustard, urad.
Then add the onion ,chilli and  curry leaves.
Now add the cooked flower and add salt ,saute for few minutes.
Add the cooked thuvar and cocnut and remove from heat.
Banana flower Poriyal
Serve hot with rice.....Valaipoo poriyal is ready and a healthy one too.
