Vazhakkai Varuval

 Today's recipe is a Chettinad Special . Vazhakkai Varuval .One of my favorite and very delicious. I am sure if you make this in the way I prepared the dish you will love it. It goes well with Rasam Rice or Curd rice.😋😋😋😋😋😋 . It is made plantain/Raw Banana


Vazhakkai( Raw Banana) - 4-5

curry powder - 1tsp

turmeric - 1/2 tsp

cumin powder - 1/2 tsp

mustard - 1/2 tsp 

Asafoetida - 1 pinch 

salt - 3/4 tsp 

Oil - 1 tsp

oil some for shallow frying

Grind coarsely and keep it aside


Fennel seeds - 1 tsp

garlic - 4 -5 cloves

Curry leaves - few

Few  important steps 

First remove the skin from the Vazhakkai  with peeler.

Slice them into wedges

Then put in the bowl of water so it doesn't  change its color.


Heat another pan.  Keep the heat to medium.

Add 2tsp oil. When hot add the mustard, asafoetida. 

Then add the coarsely ground garlic , fennel, curry leaves mix which we had grinded and kept ready.

Stir it and add the curry powder, cumin powder, turmeric , salt

Sauté it. 

Then add the shallow fried half cooked Vazhakkai wedges .

Mix it , reduce the heat little bit and let it cook for few more minutes so the masala coats and it gets cooked fully.

After 6-8 minutes it is ready. It will be crispy on outside and soft in the inside.

Transfer it in the serving bowl and serve with hot Rice and Rasam.😋😋😋😋
