Today I am going to make Sambhar with Manjal Poosanikkai . Call it a Pumpkin in English. It is a squash and orange in inside. It is large ,round, orange vegetable(squash). This sambhar is very tasty and goes well as a side dish for Rice/ Idli/dosa.
Ingredients
Thuvar Dhal -1/2 cup
Manjal Poosanikkai/Pumpkin -1 cup
Onion -1/4 cup chopped
Tomato -2 small one(or 1 medium)
Tamarind -small gooseberry size
Oil - 1-2 tsps
Salt
Sambhar powder-1 tsp (depending upon how spicy you need you can increase or reduce the quantity. Mine is homemade and its spicy ,so I use 1/2 tsp)
Seasoning
Mustard -1/4 tsp
Hing - little (a pinch) ( optional)
Curryleaves few
Cook the Thuvar dhal [Pigeon peas] either in a pressure cooker or stove top and mash it . Keep it aside.
